Routine Maintenance on HMRC system today – Magic Tax downtime.

Routine maintenance of HMRC’s system will take place today.

Tuesday, 5th October September 2021.

HMRC will be carrying out routine maintenance today between 13:00 – 13:30.

As a result of this, there will also be downtime to the Magic Tax solution (since it relies on HMRC systems being operational).

We suggest not logging in or attempting to make a submission between 12:30 and 14:00 today.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.


Emails were sent out in September informing all Magic Tax users that the Magic Tax solution will be decommissioned this December.

This is a friendly reminder to make sure that your business is prepared for this.

The last date that you will be able to use the solution to submit a VAT return will be on Tuesday, 07/12/2021.

Users, filing for the following obligation periods should make note of when they will need to make the move to a new solution, (and should bear in mind the requirement for digital record keeping necessary to compile a VAT return):

Jun, Jul, Aug 202107/10/2021
Jul, Aug, Sept 202107/11/2021
Aug, Sept, Oct 202107/12/2021
Sept, Oct, Nov 202107/12/2021

The deadline for submitting the return online and paying HMRC are usually the same – 1 calendar month and 7 days after the end of an accounting period. You need to allow time for the payment to reach HMRC’s account. The deadlines are different if you use the VAT Annual Accounting Scheme

After 07/12/2021 the solution will be available for you to log in and view your vat filing history (for a period of 6 years), but will no longer be available for use to make a submission.
